Infrared / Hot Mirror Filters
Two filters, the 18A and 87, absorb the visible light spectrum, while transmitting infrared light. The 18A also allows UV rays to pass through. The Tiffen standard (std.) hot mirror is designed to remedy sensitivity to infrared light by reflecting most infrared light, especially between 800 and 1200 nanometers
- The Hot Mirror Filter works on film cameras, but is ideally suited for digital cameras.
- It solves color rendition problems caused by sensitivity to infrared light.
- It gives such images normal color by reducing their bluish cast.
- Some digital cameras have this problem because the Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) in the camera is very sensitive to infrared lights.
